T O P I C R E V I E WfieryscalesI was talking to a friend, who lives in Colorado, and he mentioned that Cripple Creek has turned into a gambling town. Is this true and how far has it turned into a gambling place?I am very sad to hear about this...BiBi DeAngeloWhen Linda was returning to Cripple Creek in 1993 she told me she was almost dreading it because her small town use to be peaceful and tranquil was now a gambling city. I had visited the town in the late 1970's and 80's and it was such a paradise of the ole west. Felt like it could have been a movie set for some western movie or TV series.Linda told me since the gambling came into the town they went from just a few police people to a SWAT team. Not only was gambling an issue, it appeared that the gambling brought all kinds of other criminal issues to the remote city too. I personally hadn't traveled back to Cripple Creek to see the changes so I can only share with you her words.fieryscalesIt's sad to see a once spiritual place turn into something completely different like a gambling mecca InvidiaBlueI visited the town in June of 08, and was disappointed as well. However, I still felt a spiritual mist there, especially when I had the privilege of visiting the Last Dollar Inn and walking the very same paths she did. I even saw little clear crystals glued to a window, and the man I would assume was Chip (I forget how he looked) said he believed she was the one who did it. http://www.lastdollarinn.com/innkeepers.htm There was something magical about seeing that, right in front of me, despite the extremely awkward air... </3 It was something to experience, for sure.As far as the whole gambling thing goes, well, Im sort of mixed on the issue. I read somewhere (wiki probably) that the town was losing money and close to becoming a ghost town, and that the gambling business provided the money to keep it on its feet. If it werent for that her two homes there would have probably become a very easy target for not only the apathetic decay of "time" and weather but for vandals as well. I know her Hayden Street house has fallen prey to the former, albeit slowly, but Im glad the damage done is not as bad as it could be. One of my dreams is to purchase that house and restore it at the very least. The rest remains to be seen, but the main thing is to keep it from falling so far into disrepair that it loses all hope of that restoration--or going into the wrong hands. Its an expensive dream, but one I hope to pursue. Perhaps with some help, and perhaps with none. Does anyone know who owns the house, and/or why no one has lived in it since her death (or identity change, if you prefer)?------------------"Among the repulsions of atheism for me has been its drastic uninterestingness as an intellectual position. I agree, there is still a bit of a spiritual vibe. Even Tesla a bit...mys-elf13I have never been there but a friend of mine went to college very close. I was talking to this friend about Linda & what I read in Star Signs. I really wanted to make the trek there someday. She told me I might be disappointed. She had not been back there since the early 80s but at that time it was a changed place from what I told her from the book to what she knew.I would still go, though. Ill be sure to make them available to everyone who wants them somehow until they can visit in person. Here, its name is synonymous with 'gambling'...That is not neccesarily a bad thing, though. I associate it with special holiday trips as a gift from my Mama (she took me to Cripple Creek for mt 21st b-day and I won like $600!)It is a beautiful, still eerie place tucked away up in the mountains. The feeling there is strange electricity with occasional whispers of the past that go as quickly as they came (but leave my stomach "rollercoaster funny" if you know what I mean)In 4th grade, my class went on a field trip there to go down in the historic Molly Kathleen Mine (terrifying if one is claustrophobic!) and ride on the Victor Narrow Gauge Railway (which I recommend to ANYONE who visits the 'Creek!)If anyone gets to visit, let me know! I'd love to meet fellow LL'ers Randall ------------------"I have found a desire within myself that no experience in this world can satisfy; the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world." -C.S. Im so excited to explore (at least outside) Linda's home on Hayden street. I have a dream of owning it someday too but Id better work on seeing it first! ------------------"Among the repulsions of atheism for me has been its drastic uninterestingness as an intellectual position.
